Chamomilla Recutita Extract (INCI)

Chamomile (Chamomilla Recutita) is an aromatic fragrant herb with branched stem and multiple pinnate leaves, which can grow up to 50 cm high. In the period from May to September, chamomile forms golden-yellow flower heads, which are framed by white, tongue-shaped petals in the form of rays. The plant “is’ spread throughout Europe and Asia.

Active ingredients of Chamomilla Recutita Extract

The thick blue or blue-green colored essential oil is the main carrier of the effect. It is mainly contained in the tubular flowers. The most effective compounds belong to the cyclic sesquiterpenes.

Found were:
chamazulene or its precursor matricin, (-)-alpha-bisabolol, (-)-alpha-bisabolol oxide A, (-)-alpha-bisabolol oxide B, (-)-alpha-bisabolol oxide C, 8-9-alpha-bisabolonone oxide A, spathalenol, farnesene, cadiene, cis (trans)-en-in-dicycloether, unsaturated olefins, myrcene sterol esters, triterpenol esters, triglycerides and keto esters, choline, coumarins such as umbeIliferone, herniarin, flavonoids such as apigenin, cosmosiin, quercitrin, hyperin, rutin, isorhamnetin, patulitrin, and acids such as caprylic and cerotic acid.

Effect of Chamomilla Recutita Extract

The therapeutic effect of Chamomilla Recutita is largely due to the essential oil.
In addition to chamazulene, (-)-alpha-bisabolol, and to a lesser extent bisabolol oxides and en-ln-dicycloether, have antiphlogistic (anti-inflammatory) activity.
(-)-alpha-bisabolol also has antiseptic and antifungal activity. The spasmolytic (antispasmodic) effect is due to the same terpenes as well as the en-ln-dicycloether and flavonoids.
The beneficial effects of chamomile extract on the human organism have been proven by many studies. At the same time, the therapeutic value of chamomile is based on a complex of active ingredients and not on the presence of a single active ingredient.
