Oenothera Biennis Oil (INCI)

INCI name: OENOTHERA BIENNIS OIL

Origin

Evening primrose oil (Oenothera Biennis Oil) is extracted from the seed capsules of the evening primrose plant and is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (for effect see vitamin F).
Evening primrose is a yellow-flowered plant with flowers 3 – 5 cm in size, which open at night and have a strong fragrance.

Active ingredients

Fatty acid composition:

  • Palmitic acid 6 %
  • Stearic acid 2 %
  • Oleic acid 10 %
  • cis-linoleic acid 70 %
  • gamma-linolenic acid 10 %

Effect

Oenothera biennis oil is predestined for scaly, inflammatory and dermatitic skin. Essential fatty acids (fatty acids that cannot be produced by the body itself) are essential building blocks for the synthesis of phospholipids, from which the membranes of skin cells are formed. Studies have shown that linoleic and γ-linolenic acids, when applied topically, are incorporated into the lipid structures of the skin and regenerate it.
