Ubiquinone – Coenzym Q10 (INCI)

Origin

Ubiquinone is found in both the plant and animal kingdoms. The human organism can synthesize it from the amino acids phenylalanine or tyrosine. It belongs to the group of lipid-soluble benzoquinones and is responsible for electron transport in the respiratory chain. It plays an important role in providing energy by converting adenosine triphosphate.

Effect

Ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10) transmits energy in the cell and also has an antioxidant effect in the sense of a radical scavenger. It protects the mitochondrial membrane and is said to have a protective effect on cell renewal. It can regenerate oxidatively altered vitamin E. All these mentioned properties make it interesting for a cosmetic application.
